History of Mulranny Golf Club
Mulranny Golf Club was founded in 1896 by the local hotel which was owned by Irish Rail at that time, as a holiday activity for guests who came to the hotel on holidays by train. It was affiliated to the Golf Union of Ireland in 1968 but the hotel continued to fund it up to 1980. It was originally set up as a 9 hole course. After it was affiliated the club set about making it an 18 hole course and it was played as 18 holes for about two years. Eddie Hackett designed an 18 holechampionship links course for Mulranny but it never materialised due to land ownership. The club took over the running of the club in 1980 and the current layout has existed since 1985.
The first clubhouse was a small caravan which was superseded by a bigger one in 1981. In 1996 the club purchased a series of porta cabins which form the clubhouse up to the present day. In 2024 the club started planning for a new clubhouse.
